Two flatland tyrolean bouldering sportclimbing freaks wanted to go high up. Finally they reached the top of Grand Capucin but found it always goes higher and higher and higher... Nice pictures of the Grand Capucin ascent and two little videos of the bergschrund and a 'little' storm in the tent. Simon did well. It was his first multipitch alpine climb at all.
The Alpine Pass Route follows the Swiss Via Alpina 1, a 360km trek east-west across Switzerland, from Sargans, on the border of Liechtenstein, to Montreux. It's a demanding 3-week trek, described in the Cicerone guidebook in 18 stages, crossing 16 passes including the 2778m Hohtürli. Visit www.cicerone/co/uk
The Grand Capucin is an extraordinary red granit tower in the Mont Blanc Group . It has an E face rising steeply out of the Géant Glacier. It is situated at the end of the east side of the Mont Blanc du Tacul . You can't miss it when you go from the Aiguille du Midi to the Rifugio Torino. It is a wonderful rock obelisk on the glacier du Géant. Particularly noticeable are the rows of overhangs which at one time suggested it was unclimbable, but Bonatti found a winding route which goes over some of the overhangs, but in general works its way up between the great roofs; the climbing is quite literally, geometrically vertical, something quite exceptional on granite. Although its faces are not higher than 490 m and although the mountain can be seen only from the summits around, it has been inte...

The Glacier Express is a train which connects the two major mountain resorts of St. Moritz and Zermatt in the Swiss Alps. It is not an "express" in the sense of being a high-speed train but rather in the sense that it provides a one-seat ride for a long duration travel. In fact it has the reputation of being the slowest express train in the world. It takes 7,5 hours to journey across 291 bridges, through 91 tunnels and across the Oberalp Pass on the highest point at 2,033 m (6,670 ft) in altitude. The entire line is metre gauge (narrow gauge railway). The Glacier Express is run jointly by two private Swiss railways, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) and the Rhätische Bahn (RhB), who also operate the regular local trains and freight trains over the same route. The panorama cars were i...
